 NOVEMBER’S FLESH

I got a nosebleed this November

And as it hit my shower floor

I thought of you.

Took and twisted my tender flesh,

I was nothing but sanguine and never enough.

I have spent decades and days, it seems

Refilling all you drained.

Of course the sun still shines for you

While I had begged the moon to linger, if only for a minute longer.

You did not have ladders on your legs

Or count each step to the stars above.

To be your vessel put me to rest, nearly

Yet luck granted me another day,

another decade, even.

This morning I felt Winter slap my face

And I smiled.

As my nose ran from the cold

I thought of you, your vacancy, and wanted to tell you

Thank you,

Thank you,

Thank you,

For I have never been happier.
