Returning Home
Hello friends! I hope this post finds you well. In case you can't tell, my blog got a bit of a makeover. I have been dreaming of making this change for a while and I finally did! I'm so thrilled with how it turned out and I can't wait to see where it takes me. I feel as if I have a chance to begin again- to build my blog into something bigger and better than it was before. I believe that that is what summer is all about- a chance to step away from the drudgery of school and routine and try to start over with a fresh slate.
This summer, I am attending the Governor's School of North Carolina where I am currently studying Social Science. While busy and at times tiring, I love the people that I have met here! It has been an immersive and enthralling experience thus far. This past weekend I returned to my mountain home for a mid-session break. Coincidentally, the break happened to fall on my birthday as well! On Saturday, I finally turned seventeen. I had the chance to meander around Asheville and hit pause on the busy, rapid-fire life that I have been living for the past two and a half weeks. Simply cherishing the small interactions and bits of my regular life that I haven't had while at camp made me so grateful for those things that I usually take for granted. Pouring a cup of (good) coffee, sleeping in, even enjoying the midnight thunderstorms- these experiences reminded me how much I love and appreciate my home.
While on my visit home, I finally got to return to one of my favorite cities- Asheville, NC! Given my busy nature even when I am at home, I hadn't had the pleasure of returning to this creative center for quite a while. I always adore visiting here- partially for the good food & shopping and partially for the people. I chose this city to celebrate my birthday because it is such a lively area. Inspiration lies around every corner and in every building. For my outing, I chose to style one of my favorite red dresses. I actually purchased it last winter, but I feel like it can be styled year-round! I paired it with my new favorite shoes- my Doc Martens. I love how this look encompasses both a girly and a badass vibe. The juxtaposition between the summer dress and the punk boots really completes this outfit and I can't wait to style it throughout the rest of my summer adventures.
I often tell myself and others that I was born to travel and to move. This summer has truly put this to the test, as I have been on the go quite literally since school let out. While I do cherish the thrill of being on the road, I found that fog lines and pavement can't make up for the mountains I call home. While I still have another two and a half weeks in the big city of Raleigh, I will continue to hold my little haven close to my heart.
